Why do self hosted versions lag behind new releases?

Docker images and therefore the Helm chart are published shortly after the SAAS update.

The reason of this delay is to be sure there are no hidden bugs. Bug fixing in our SaaS is quick and easy, however the propagation to all self-hosted instances is much slower. Our ambition is to provide the best self-hosted experience; as we have less control over all the different systems, we choose to be conservative to ensure a smooth user experience of the service.

We are also trying to be predictable in this matter, with shorter release cycles.

Today, about 17 hours after the version 2.12.0 release, I am able to upgrade my self-hosted penpot to this latest version. I only expected to upgrade from my current 2.10.0 version to 2.11, considering the conditions you stated. I’m very happy about the unexpected surprise, and my appreciation goes to the penpot development team. I personally hope this means there would no longer be version lags in the future, though I wouldn’t mind delays in favor of your expressed goals.
