šŸ“£ New event series: Penpot Community Hours!

Hi everyone

When we discussed our community plans late last year, we mentioned the concept of hosting online get-togethers for our beloved community members.

Without further ado, Iā€™m happy to announce our newest event series, Penpot Community Hours, begins 20 February 2025 at 15:00 UTC with @diacritica, @carolina.portugal and @myfunnyandy joining us!

What are these events? :mag:

The goal of Penpot Community Hours is simple: Provide our community members an opportunity to feel even closer to Penpot, fire away questions, discuss set topics and more importantly, see each other on camera, yes!

Who can join? :person_raising_hand:

Everyone! Penpot Community Hours is free, for all! The only thing we ask (mainly to be able to handle the bandwidth and ensure a friendly environment) is for you to sign-up to the events using a super simple registration form below.

Sign me up right meow! :tickets:

We will send you a calendar invitation once you complete the registration form and you will find the details of our session there.

(If you need help with timezones, please feel free to use this converter.)

Whatā€™s on the agenda? :clipboard:

In the very first edition of Penpot Community Hours, we thought itā€™d be great to talk about whatā€™s on our radar for 2025, based on the forum posts from Pablo and Andy. We will cover both product and business plans and our thinking processes behind them.

Finally, me and Carol will briefly touch upon our plans for all things Penpot community before we have a very relaxed Q&A session.

House rules :scroll:

Just like our ethos, we want these events to be as transparent and open as possible. While itā€™s our main goal to have a nice, relaxed time and chat, we also must make sure everyone feels comfortable. For that, weā€™ve put together these simple rules weā€™ll ask you to follow:

  • Our host will be moderating the sessions so please follow any instructions.

  • Please keep your mic on mute when others are talking and always ā€œraise a handā€ before saying something.

  • While each session will have a set agenda, we will always include generous Q&A time for all things Penpot. Please save your questions for the Q&A section unless they are relevant to what the speakers are discussing.

  • If thereā€™s already an existing process for certain feedback (e.g. bug reports, feature requests) we will remind our attendees about them, should such questions come up. Please keep in mind that we may not be able to provide a locked-in timeline for such things.

  • The use of offensive language is strictly prohibited and we reserve the right to remove you from the session should that happen.

Thank you and see you on 20 February!

I donā€™t know if this belongs in this topic, if not case feel free to move it.

Will Penpot attend the ā€˜Open Source Founders Summit 2025ā€™?

Hi @BDV , Iā€™m paging @diacritica to give you a more extended response but in short, yes!

Hi @BDV ! I actually attended the first edition last year (you can see me in many of their published photos!) and I had a great time, so it was a no-brainer for me to register for the 2025 edition. Iā€™ll be there! Will you?

What I loved about OSFS (apart from it being in Paris!) was how easy was to quickly get to the nitty-gritty of specific challenges around Open Source businesses. It felt like everyone in the room was already an expert and we could skip the ā€œbasic contextā€ stage and be very direct about the nuances of our worldview.

Hey @diacritica no I wonā€™t be attending OSFS myself but saw the event on the Open Source Initiative site. After looking at OSFS their website and seeing some of the guests who will be present (mainly founders or CEOs of well known applications) it did seem like a potentially interesting event for intitatives like Penpot. But am glad to hear that you are already familiar with it and will be attending the event again.

Should you have time to spare, you can always cross over to Belgium and do e.g. Bruges to explore one of its many chocolate shops  Or if you prefer something different you can visit the following site (as you can already see from the site, Belgium is a small but complex country )

Oh! @BDV but you donā€™t need to sell Belgium or Bruges to me! Apart from London, Brussels is the city Iā€™ve visited the most thanks to FOSDEM. And Brugesā€¦ Oh I love Bruges so much. Did you know one of my favourite brewers is actually Brugse zot!? (yes, I visited their brewery) And I always make sure to have a nice selection of Neuhaus chocolates at home :chocolate_bar:

Beers and chocolate aside, Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll be in Belgium a couple of times this year so Iā€™ll let you know. Happy to discuss Open Source and Design & Code in Bruges!

Brugse Zot from brewery De Halve Maan is also one of my favourites :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
alongside Tripel LeFort and a few more :speak_no_evil_monkey:

Then you probably also already know about there bear pipeline in Bruges.

If you can then visit ā€˜The Chocolate Lineā€™, in this shop you can see if you are lucky from within the shop the production process as Dominique or his son are at work in their workshop.

Sounds good to me, but Open Source and Design & Code is more something I got into by accident.
So donā€™t know if I will be able to contribute muchā€¦
