I am very new to Penpot, so maybe I am missing some things about “Size presets”…
We have to pick from a long list that is not searchable or filterable, and then the only thing we get is “W and H”. There is no FILL, STROKE, SHADOW etc info.
After picking a preset, we can see the item is checked until we modify the board size and the check goes away, (as it should.)
There does not seem to be any ways to name and save a preset, install or remove presets, no favorites or recent items. I did not see any Plugins to manage Size presets.
JSON does not have comments, so there is no evidence that we did use a preset at all.
Is that about it? What am I missing??
So, what if Size presets was expanded to “Project presets”?
It could be expanded to include optional stuff like the 3 things I listed above and even more advanced stuff like bezel images for watches, for example…
Oh that’s a cool feature idea!
Some of these project presets you’ve mentioned could work well as design tokens when they land in Penpot. I’m picturing project-level preset tokens that you might reuse across multiple projects.
Right now the size presets are referring to board sizes, and that’s why the preset is unchecked when you resize the board. You’re not missing anything there.
I’d like to be able to add my own custom preset sizes too… a lot of organisations and content management systems have specific thumbnail/graphic sizes. I’d add some for Penpot cover thumbnails and plugin graphics!
Hi and thanks for the quick reply!
I am dreaming of the day when official design assets such as images and interactions are readily available from the vendors themselves, (and then extended by users and fans.)
For example, what if Raspberry Pi provided penpot-ready assets such images of their displays, including switches, indicator lights etc? Not just W and H…
What if we could design an interactive screen in penpot, insert it into an image of one of their touch displays then export (USDZ?) from penpot, to create an (still) interactive object to be placed in a mixed reality world… to view a proposed digital sign outside of a conference room, for example.
I don’t think Figma can do that??

Totally, I think a lot of these companies benefit from community designers creating these kinds of assets on their behalf.
