Penpot 2.7 is out!
After the huge excitement around our last release, where we published the first-ever native Design Tokens support in a design tool (yay!), we’re keeping the momentum going with a fresh batch of new features and improvements, and, of course, the usual bunch of bugfixes and optimizations.
Let’s dive in!
Design Tokens improvements
It hasn’t been long since we launched Design Tokens in Penpot, and we’re already rolling out the first set of improvements, a few of the many to come. On top of the following, we’ve fixed a fine bunch of issues, something expected at such early-stage.
Duplicate token sets
You can now duplicate token sets directly from a menu item. This can be a huge time-saver, especially when working from existing sets.
Select sets when creating token themes
We’ve made it easier to create themes by letting you select their sets right in the creation window.
Indicator for inactive sets
Some info indicators have been added to clarify the system state, such as one showing when a set is inactive. This should help avoid surprises about why a token isn’t being applied.
Editors and viewers can now create Share prototype links
Editors and viewers now have the same ability as owners and admins to configure, create, copy, and delete links to share prototypes.
Sharing prototypes is key for better team collaboration, no matter the role. Team members often have to share presentations without risking any accidental changes to the designs, which means they don’t necessarily need editing permissions. That’s why we decided to grant this permission to all team members.
A clearer way to invite your first team members
Penpot works perfectly for solo projects, but it’s always more fun with a team. That’s why we’ve updated the initial state of the invitations area. Instead of starting blank, it now offers clearer guidance to help you invite your first team members.
Credit where it’s due! This improvement in design and UX writing comes from community member Prithvi Tharun. Not all open source contributions are about code, and this is a fantastic example of how design and writing make a difference too.
Board size presets have been updated
The list was, let’s say, a bit outdated. We’ve updated the board size presets to include the sizes of the most current devices and removed some of the older ones (goodbye, iPhone 5!).
