It’s very common that we want to add annotations on top of the design to communicate ideas and thought process. Comments could serve the same purpose. However, the way comments work today in the app is not ideal for this purpose. Comments is a mode in the current app and you have to Switch to it to either view or add comments.
Annotations are different. You would always want them visible as notes to your co-designers or for yourself. And unlike comments that are detached from the design elements, annotations should be linked to the elements.
I propose an Annotations Layer that sits on top of all boards, who’s visibility can be turned on or off (in case you need to laser focus on the design) which will house sticky note type text boxes that can be linked via lines/arrows to elements on boards.
