TL;DR: Often, participation and collaborations happens outside and across teams; however, penpot’s sharing options in this area are very limited and do not allow to invite non-team editors to a file.
Backgrounds:
- I worked in an organization that had one design team and multiple developer teams. Here, the solution probably would have been to create a team for each developer team and and then invite the designers to both. Verdict: Would work.
- I did consulted small open source software projects on improving the UI and usability of their software. For this I did not find a good solution with Penpot: I do not want to start my coaching with them needing to create a penpot team to work with me on a mockup or UI concept or just to instroduce them to a UI design software. But even if they they would have a Penpot team already, they would need to make me a team member, which I am not, and remember to remove me from the team again after the coaching.
- Sometimes, FOSS teams work on the UI for a specific functionality and would appreciate support with it, but they might not want to invite a new community member to a team.
The equivalent github issue is #2739, Share design/file with others who are not on your team. I wanted to post this here, since the forum seems to have more traction and since I am curious if other users struggle with similar scenarios.
