I am Catina (@catcatpot), the curriculum design lead from CGGE (Hong Kong) and I’m thrilled to announce the launch of the Penpot Certification Program, along with a co‑aligned community contest!!
In the past two years, we have been working with the Penpot team on several educational projects. Before that, I worked with the educators in the Blender community, and we have been launching the Blender Educational Badge project since 2023. Let me touch on it a bit 
This project aims to provide a reference framework that includes shared standards across different key areas in Blender. By establishing a common language, schools, teachers, and students can better understand Blender and facilitate classroom teaching. Currently we have defined the foundation badges across 7 key areas, and we are still developing advanced badges. What is the Penpot Certification Program? 
An industry‑aligned way to validate your Penpot skills and collaboration workflows. Start at the Foundation level (Visual Designer) and grow through five Specialization badges like Layout Strategist, Interaction Designer, Team Collaborator, System Developer, and Web Engineer — capped by a UI Specialist project certificate.
You register and take exams on OriginCG, and you’ll receive a shareable digital certificate and verified badge. (link to origincg.cn)
How to take the Penpot Certification Exam?
Create an account at our certification partner OriginCG and take the Foundation Badge: Visual Designer!
This is a 30-minute, MCQ-based exam designed to test your understanding of core UI design concepts, essential Penpot tools, and fundamental design workflows. The exam consists of 20 questions, and a passing score of 75% or above is required to earn your certificate and badge.
The exam aligns with the Penpot UI Design Course (www.penpot.app/courses), which covers topics including responsive design, typography, color, layout, design systems, and designer–developer collaboration. Don’t forget to watch the course videos and explore the official Penpot guides before sitting the exam!
A sneak peek into the Penpot certification structure 
The Foundation Badge (Visual Designer) certifies your proficiency in design principles, emphasizing visually appealing and functional user experiences. The assessment includes 20 multiple-choice questions in 30 minutes.
The Specialization Badges include 5 distinct micro-badges representing specialized skills: Interaction Designer, Team Collaborator, Layout Strategist, System Developer, and Web Engineer. Unlike Visual Designer, the assessment for each badge includes 8 multiple-choice questions, 2 matching questions, 4 true/false questions, 1 image-based question, and 1 sequencing question in 30 minutes.
The Course Badge is a capstone project that requires learners to validate their competency in UI design and have earned all 6 badges from the previous levels. Learners will have two weeks to complete the final project after registration.
Our exam and the UI Course are continuously being updated. Specialisation Badges, the final Certificate, and course videos are on the way. Stay tuned!
