Together with the wonderful Penpot team, I’ve been working on this for a while! We’re bringing together:
Practical design principles that have helped me throughout my career
Hands-on demos showing you how to build professional materials step-by-step
(Optional) assignments so you can get creative and build up your portfolio
Loads of tips and tricks for making the most of Penpot
The course is for anyone who wants to learn more about UI design, whether you’re a designer starting out, or a developer who wants to know more about design. It includes around 10 hours of video tutorials (including captions + full transcripts.)
And we’d love to get your feedback! We want to make sure we’re producing a course that you find helpful and accessible. What do you think of the different video formats? Are the topics and assignments informative to you? What topics or assignments would you like me to cover?
I strongly believe this course will be extremely successful because it will highly accessible and widely used for many years. We needed something like this.
If you’re a Design school or teach UX/UI design and would like to repurpose this course’s material, reach out! We’ll be happy to make all this content super easy for you!
Hello, Penpot community & team! alright, @LauraKalbag This is my quick feedback. I just finished WATCHING the course today, and I really appreciate the work and effort in putting this course together. The pros for me are the pace and calm voice of the course presenter; it’s perfect. I like that the course is in short episodes (1-3 min), and also the hands-on practical lab design isn’t too lengthy, just within a fair timing of 15-20 min. I love the presenter’s teaching style. However, the cons… I had a poor experience with the media player; there was no next button or auto-continue play to the next episode on the media player, and I had to continually escape the full-screen mode to be able to access the next button.
Final remark: great job, @LauraKalbag and team Penpot!
I’m Brainer, a digital UX/UI product designer with over a decade of experience, and I’m absolutely thrilled to join the Penpot community! I’m here not just as a new member, but as a passionate advocate ready to contribute and help grow the Penpot ecosystem. My goal is to help drive Penpot to become the number one UI design tool, not just an alternative.
What I’ll Be Doing:
In the coming weeks, I’ll be launching a weekly teaching and video podcast series titled #MadeWithPenpot. I’m setting up a new YouTube channel specifically to promote the Penpot ecosystem and champion the design-to-code workflow with Penpot.
Kicking Things Off: My Portfolio Redesign
This week, I’m starting by redesigning my old personal portfolio (http://victorabang.dx.am/) entirely in Penpot. I’ll be sharing a step-by-step video studio recording of this redesign, walking you through my process and workflow. Plus, I’ll be exploring the design-to-code capabilities using the Locofy AI plugin—so you can see it all in action!
Contributing to Learning:
@diacritica@LauraKalbag , I’m currently building an LMS for our tech school (https://pspanalytics.com/). I’d love to repurpose Penpot course material and create a masterclass to be hosted within our LMS, helping even more people master Penpot.
If you’re as excited about the future of Penpot as I am, please hit that heart button! Let’s build something amazing together.
Hello @LauraKalbag, thanks for this great course, I really liked the material, it’s fast and gets to the point, just want to know when are we expecting to see “Block 2”, is it coming anytime soon? Also are we going to see how do you design wireframes, I struggle sometimes when translating my ideas, so seeing how you think when you design would help a lot.
Hi @Abraham. Thanks for the kind feedback! The rest of Block 1 is coming soon. This will include text and typography, as well as using colour. Block 2 might be a month or more away. It takes a while to plan, record and edit the videos
You will definitely see how I design wireframes and there’s also an assignment to create your own. This is planned for the middle of Block 2. For now, if you haven’t seen it yet, you might like my wireframing hands-on demo.
As a Linux user and software developer, I recently started learning UI/UX design using Penpot. I came across this course from the official Penpot YouTube channel and absolutely loved it. The content is well-structured and insightful, and it has significantly improved my design skills. I do have a few pieces of feedback:
It seems to be taking forever for the other blocks of the course to become available. I understand that creating high-quality teaching content takes time, but perhaps the community could help accelerate the release of the remaining course blocks.
I’m new to the Penpot community and still unsure how to share my exercise from the first block of the course. I watched the video explaining the task, but I wish there were a dedicated section or page with clear instructions on where and how to upload the task to the community for feedback. If such a resource exists, I must have completely missed it.
Overall, great job! I’m looking forward to even greater things ahead.
Thanks! It’s important to us to gather feedback on the course early on as I didn’t want to go too far in the wrong direction. The downside of that is that we couldn’t release it all in one drop.
I love your suggestion of providing information on how and where to upload the assignments! I’ll record a short video for just that and add it to the first block
We haven’t got a specific estimated date right now, but we release the remaining parts gradually, and in order. We’ll update you in this thread as soon as we have more to share!
I’m impressed by your teaching style, skills and consistent presentation. This is a very high quality course. Looking forward to following the next blocks.
Many thanks to Laura and Team. Please keep going on like this!
