Hey,
When is the next fix release of Penpot planned?
I have 1 Penpot file where I can’t do anything with.
Already send the Penpot file to support and the issue is logged in Taiga…
Hi, we don’t have specific dates for releasing fixes. Can you share the link to the issue at Taiga so we can take a look at the state of this specific one? You can write me a DM if you don’t feel comfortable sharing it in public.
@myfunnyandy Your request (14812) has been updated. To add additional comments, reply to this email.
Do you have enough information to provide a status update?
Yes, that is enough info, and the issue is labeled a High priority bug.
We are currently in the middle of a feature release stabilization and I’m afraid this might be why fixing a bug like this one is taking longer than usual. Apologies for the inconvenience.
why is the issue still not assigned to a developer in Taiga, since it is high priority bug?
Because no one is still actively working on it. We assign the bugs with very little anticipation so there’s no risk of preventing another person from starting working on them sooner.
@myfunnyandy When will the new release finally come out? It is quietly starting to get embarrassing that it takes so long, in the meantime I cannot do anything with certain files because they crash immediately after opening.
@diacritica Can you explain why no fix release has been released so far since the last release 3 weeks ago?
3 weeks for an update means nothing in Open Source terms. Visit their “not a roadmap” post, take a chill pill, and until Penpot is ready for professional use, use one of the alternatives.
Yes, I can certainly explain why.
We’re currently in the middle of a release freeze for Penpot 2.5 (please see here) and this takes full priority for all the team so unless we find important or critical bugs (for “severity”, not “priority”), we don’t impact the release process.
Your bug has the highest priority but not higher than the release process itself, which we need to protect as much as we can. In particular Penpot 2.5 is taking a bit longer than other releases so it’s been a bit frustrating for the team too and you’re experiencing that pain as well. Also, it doesn’t help that your bug is estimated to take a few days of work to fix.
Please, don’t take the fact that it’s not assigned as a sign of not-caring but rather, as Andy was saying, a way to make sure that whichever developer gets a bit of available time and can look into it will automatically self-assign it. We really don’t want to “fake it”, so when you see someone assigned, you’ll it’s for real.
Normally, we would’ve have this fixed rather quickly but this was an unlucky timing, I’m really sorry.
Thank you for your detailed explanation.
Like Home Assistant, would it be possible to publish patch releases for Penpot on a regular basis?
The advantage of this approach is that if a bug fix is delayed for some reason, the planned release can go ahead as usual. When the bug is fixed, it can then be released with the next release.
