Liquid Glass Support

Actually , Figma released Liquid Glass feature, for future IOS interface design its can be very important.
If you want to be a competitor to figma, you need work with Figma auditory and give them more credits than figma… And Links…

I have read this post and am scratching my head. What is its message? Is it something like “Figma has it, therefore PenPot must have it, too!”?

Yeah I also don’t quite understand this post. There are also way more important things in penpots roadmap than glass shaders

At the moment, Penpot isn’t a real competitor to Figma. I’m using it on a personal project, but even basic tasks that are effortless in Figma take significantly more time in Penpot. From a marketing perspective, Figma clearly jumped on the hype train—Penpot could do the same. But so far, I’ve received zero feedback on my critical issues with the app. Sad.

It’s simple. Having solid core features is great—but for good marketing, you have to use the community and social media. Combine a flashy feature with strong social engagement and you’ll attract new users. New users = more funding. Something like a liquid shader, or any feature that looks impressive, could be an easy way to jump on the hype train.

There are various aspects that make a product attractive. I agree that other paid tools that can afford larger teams and a certain type of income, can have more features; for me, the fact that Penpot is open source and free (in addition, obviously, that it works very well for what I do) and the fact of talking to people instead of a company, make it more attractive than a series of features, which probably (I have no doubts about it!) will be implemented in the future. When I asked for advice or insights on specific topics I received a response in a very short time, I imagine that publishing 10 pages of critical issues requires a structured response that cannot be given in a few days, and maybe somebody is already working on some of them…
Among other things, reading here and there, it does not seem to me that the main goal is to become “Figma’s competitor”, even if I imagine it is an almost obligatory comparison, due to the fact that Figma has become a standard in the prototyping field.
Just my humble thought…

Hello @Vitaly,

At this stage, it would not be practical to develop this feature before the release of our new renderer. However, we fully understand its importance and appreciate your feedback.

It’s cool that you responded to a minor idea, but why don’t you respond to things that are truly critical to the work?
I thinked what open source can be more open to community.

  1. This feature is purely marketing. They probably just wanted to ride the hype in the early days.

As for the second part — I didn’t quite get it. Are you saying that just because it’s open source, it’s expected to be worse? Especially when all that’s really needed is some polish to the user experience, so that performance doesn’t feel like Inkscape compared to Illustrator?

It’s absolutely possible to be open source and better than Figma — Penpot has huge potential, especially if the team focuses on making it more usable for real-world work.

But as a designer, if I recommend Penpot in its current state to a fellow colleague, they’ll just roll their eyes and wonder why I’m even suggesting it. Because compared to Figma, many things take 3–4 times longer than they should.

Thanks for your message. We are a small team and currently do not have anyone dedicated full time to responding to the community. We try to cover as much as we can, but with requests coming in daily across the community forum, social media, support, and GitHub, it is not always possible to respond to everything quickly, even when it is important.

Thank you!
Alright, then where’s the best place to share what I’ve discovered while working with your software, so there’s a higher chance you’ll actually see it? GitHub?

If you come across any bugs or technical issues, please contact support@penpot.app. For feature requests or suggestions for improvement, the community forum is the best place to share them. It allows other members to join the conversation and show interest in the topics that matter to them.

Even if we do not reply right away, we actively monitor the community. Our policy is not to respond to every post individually, but to stay informed and make sure we are on top of what is happening here. We take community feedback into account when shaping our priorities and roadmap.

No, it is not necessarily true that an Open Source tool is worse than a paid tool, I said that the latter will probably have larger teams thanks to the revenue that the FOSS philosophy often does not guarantee. If a designer thinks that the price to pay for Figma or other services is right for the advantages they offer for his work, who am I to stop him? I always speak on a personal level, I am a graphic designer and I discovered Penpot for small personal projects and I fell in love with the philosophy and the people behind it and for me these things are worth a hundred features, plus it does everything I need.
P.S. Obviously I also hope that all the critical issues you listed will be fixed… :love_you_gesture:

As @carolina.portugal has already written, the development team is working on the wishes of the community. I welcome the approach she has outlined. I therefore do not want to unnecessarily fuel the question of whether the desired feature should be implemented in Penpot.
Of course, everybody can always realise interesting functions and wishes as a library, template or plug-in (as in Figma).
