Just installed Penpot and am really impressed. I will definitely stop using Figma afor now! During my initial testing I noticed an issue though. Gradients seem work fine on boards and shapes, but whenever I add a gradient to a text layer Penpot gets so laggy that it’s pretty much unusable. Definitely a client side issue. It’s not a dealbreaker for me, just wanted to let you know

You’re absolutely right, applying gradients to text layers used to cause performance issues. The good news is that our New Render team has been working on this and has already achieved significant performance improvements when dealing with text and gradients. These changes will be available in upcoming updates, so you should experience a much smoother behavior soon.

Thanks for the heads up! Luckily the issue is quite niche so am not too bothered about it. I later learned about the new rendering engine and I am sure performance will be great after that.
Still, I almost can’t believe there is such a competent alternative to industry standards that I can host myself.
