Is there any news on this so far? May I use beta of it? Currently performance is the major factor why i still using figma for my designs

Hi @skorphil ! At the time being, we are conducting an internal beta of the new render engine and finishing its integration with the new text editor.

Hey @skorphil, we’re considering opening a beta test, such as the one we did for Variants. If you don’t want to wait for the official call, you can email us at support@penpot.app to request participation.

Hello @myfunnyandy,
I would like to participate too! As I struggled in generating documentation with my plugin, that took me 60 seconds, and even a crash

One crash for 60 seconds of work seems like a fair rate

Stay tuned, we’ll write you when the time for the beta test comes.

I noticed this was discussed about a year ago and was looking for an update. While I’ve enjoyed using the MCP (which I tested in the dev branch), the current rendering engine remains the primary barrier to me switching fully to Penpot.

Every time I check back, the performance issues—specifically blurry images, the lack of background blur, and general sluggishness—prevent me from moving my workflow over. If there is a new beta available that addresses these rendering limitations, I’d love the opportunity to test it out.

I completely agree. I find it magnificent to use AI to create astonishing things, but if when I export a red square I end up seeing an orange blob, the whole house of cards seems to be standing on rather shaky foundations. I have great admiration for the Penpot team and I’m sure the render engine will be fixed, just as the override issue will be addressed as well, which I also consider to be very limiting… it’s just that the priorities seem to be distributed in a strange way, but since I’m not part of the team, I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes!

The app is unusable in its current state, it crashes like every couple of minutes, I am not exaggerating. I cannot use this app at all. Please get it together I am begging for a Figma alternative that actually works.
