Tokens from shared library not syncing

Hey folks, I came to the Penpot social yesterday and couldn’t wait to start testing it out, really liking what I see so far!

I have a quick question about design tokens. I made a shared library file with a couple of colour tokens as a test, but when I went to add them to a design file the tokens don’t show? If I add them as assets it syncs but the tokens don’t pull through.

Not sure if this is something I need to set up or if it’s a feature that hasn’t been released yet. Would love some advice. Thanks!

Hey!

The shared libraries sync assets (components, colors, typographies), but not tokens. If you want to propagate tokens through libraries, you need to apply them to assets (components and colors for the moment, typographies are on their way) in the file that is the shared library, and then use these assets in the files that have this shared library connected.

If you want to manage the same tokens in different files, you need to import/export them. We’re also working on a GitHub sync that will allow users to sync tokens files (JSON) across penpot files in a much more effective way.

We have many more improvements and features related to tokens on their way, we intend to share news about them soon.

I hope this helped!
