It's time for Penpot to (almost) move away from the DOM

We’re 1 year and 3 months into Penpot almost moving away from the DOM and we seem to be traversing a dark patch in terms of public communication.

Is it going badly? Are the results not the ones you expected? Is it just slower than anticipated?

I understand your concern but we have already shared at Penpot Fest that the new rendering engine was coming (see video linked above) and I have good news for you! We are launching the beta test in December!

We are preparing the public communication so watch this space!

Has it been more challenging than expected? Yes. But we were determined to get there no matter what. After the open beta the work will continue to ship it in a future Penpot release. The work will continue for some time as we want to keep optimizing the new rendering engine but the most important work will be available asap.

I hope you’ll be part of the open beta test call!
