I have a docker self hosted penpot environment. When I try to import a penpot file sent by a friend I get an error, see attached image. Also uploaded the penpot file for your review.

Was the file generated using the Figma Exporter plugin?
A similar issue has been reported on the Penpot repository on Github, issue #6358, and we found that the issue was that the Figma Exporter plugin uses a library that is lacking maintenance on our side so it only exports to a legacy .penpot file. We’re already working on a fix for that issue and we hope to have an update soon!
