I’m working on a design system prototype in Penpot and would love some advice from anyone who’s done more advanced prototyping.
Here’s what I’m trying to do:
-
Build an interactive sidebar navigation, similar to a documentation site.
-
Each parent section should have a chevron or arrow that expands/collapses nested items (like an accordion).
-
Ideally, I’d like this sidebar to act as a master component so updates propagate across multiple boards.
-
The prototype should feel interactive — click a section → content changes on the right side.
Questions:
-
Is there a recommended setup for this kind of nested, collapsible sidebar in Penpot?
-
Should this live in one board with different states, or across multiple boards (pages)?
-
Any examples or community files that show this pattern?
I’ve attached two screenshots for reference on what I’m aiming for. If this isn’t possible, does anybody have ideas on other options to keep a design system easily navigable within penpot (have a website like feel). Thank you!
