my biggest annoyance is that we can’t use the new WebGL rendering because when we switch it on, the preview functionality is broken. It doensn’t display the boards at all unless we change the zoom option and even so, it’s displayed in low res, so it’s not usable.

Hi @hza ! Are you using the SaaS version (i.e. design.penpot.app) or are you self-hosting? If self-hosting, which version? Preview should work OK, and we introduced some bug fixes for the Viewer in the latest release (2.19, which was out last week).
Could you confirm if you are seeing that bug in 2.19? If so, could you please report a bug?
