What’s the relationship and best practice for colours using the tokens and/or colour assets panel?
I’m a little confused which one is the best option to use.
I was kinda hoping that I could create a token for a colour and that would or could be an asset then.
AFAIK, if you create a token, you should go for the tokens panel to attach it to any element you want, as they are not quite like the styles, would be confusing to show all things in one place (though I think the tokens should show as options in the color pallette, for example).
The best use case for them is when you have a scalable design system you want to add to Penpot and keep track over it or if you need multiple themes within the same prototype, then you use tokens for that. If you just have a common prototype that doesn’t need advanced theming or anything deeper, you are good to go with styles.
Hope this give you some directions.
hey I wondered the same thing and asked a similar question here the other day: Sneak peek: Tokens + multidimensional themes - #3 by Louis
Color tokens and color assets are separate, and you have to decide which one to use.
From my understanding, using color assets are still an interesting option if you don’t really need to deal with tokens as they’re easier to set on the go, but if you’re needing to create for example color schemes, then tokens are the way to go.
