Add corner radius to shapes

Started to use Penpot on a project and after setting up a grid layout that took a while to get right, I noticed some of the rectangles turned into paths when I’d accidentally clicked and then duplicated them.

Remaking rectangles would be fine but doing that just wrecks my grid layout, it’d be great if there was a way to add corner radius to paths.

It’s been a while since this got mentioned after a quick search. Unless someone has a solution to this issue, could be worth raising again? Unless there’s a solution in making it easier to add new shapes in the grid layout.

Image shows a grid layout with a rectangle selected but with no corner radius option available.

I’m not directly answering your question, but asking another one: why do you need to create rectangles to fill you grid areas? If you plan on adding content into every space (text/images…) I suggest you do so and create a flex layout and add a fill on it (it can be color or image). You can set them to fill up all the space of the grid area, and add your corner radiuses.

I’m saying this because I feel like it’s easier to manage content layouts within every “rectangle” by doing so rather then drawing actual rectangle elements and then placing text above them.

I feel your pain. I run into this more often than I care to admit.

+1. My current solution is to bring the shape into Inkscape, add “Corner” path effects, and then bring it back to penpot.

I know that it doesn’t make sense to bloat Penpot with too many vector specific tools, but having a more streamlined way to bring the shapes back and forth would go a long way.

True Louis, you make a good point. It’s my first time using Penpot so I went to my default of filling a space with rectangles with the aim to delete them later. Your suggestion of creating a flex layout is definitely the way to go.
