### **Penpod Cameroon Insights**

Hey everyone! I’m so happy to share my insights on the Q2 and Q3 learning cycles from Cameroon. In October 2026, we took Penpot to the Cameroon International Tech Summit in Yaoundé, a three day event that ran from 15 to 17 October. We talked to designers and developers about Penpot, and many were excited to try it for the first time. We had no booth, so we walked around the halls and talked to people one by one.

**Things we learned**

- The open-source community in Cameroon is still very young. Many designers we met did not know how to contribute to open source.
- Most designers are using AI in their workflow. They want to bring those designs into Penpot and keep editing there.
- The QR code did not scan at some points, so we could not get everyone to sign up.
- Slow internet in the hall made sign-up hard.
- Some people said the sign-up process was too long.
- Penpot works best on a laptop, so some people with only a phone said they would try it later.
- We collected contacts from participants. We are now creating a group to bring them together and help them start with Penpot.
- Stickers and T-shirts made people stop and ask questions.
- Every T-shirt had a QR code that took people straight to the sign-up page.
- Newcomers said Penpot is hard to learn at first.

**Areas to improve**

- Plan earlier. Short notice meant no booth and With a booth, more people would have walked up to us, and sign-up would have been more comfortable.
- The summit was in Yaoundé. Many designers live in other cities, like Buea, Bamenda, and Kumba, and most of them could not travel to attend. Next time, we want to take Penpot to them.

**Notes for future viewers**

- Put a QR code on everything you give out.
- Keep a demo file open on a laptop, ready to show.
- Bring helpers, so one person can keep talking while another handles other things.
