Hi There Complete newbie here and I’m stuck, I honestly don’t know where to start looking… Everything was working but now when I try to move the layers to the correct screens they appear “locked” - ie “no entry” sign. Nothing appears locked - I’ve checked all the layers and there are no padlocks on at all. Any guidance would be absolutely appreciated ---

Thank you so much for responding, I really appreciate it! Apologies for not using the correct terminology to explain, I was just a bit overwhelmed. I was trying to drag and drop fields into the correct layers and no matter which field I tried to drop into this came up:🚫 I couldn’t get a proper screenshot at the time but I’ve attached a mock up. I tried using Incognito Mode in Chrome but had the same result. Then I tried it in Edge and it seemed to work It appears Chrome was causing the drag-and-drop problem. Hi Shebs, we couldn’t reproduce the issue, which seems to be a sidebar issue. If there’s a bug that you can reproduce consistently, we highly recommend opening an issue in our GitHub project and filling all the fields. Attaching a file sample or recording a video is also recommended. No need to record your boards, just the sidebar in this case would be enough. Could you confirm whether the red icon shown in the screenshot actually appeared in the app, or if you added it to highlight something? Also, could you clarify which element you’re trying to move and into which other element? You can’t add elements inside an instance of a component, such as the `navigation-bar` shown in the screenshot. ---

Hi As stated, I couldn’t get a screengrab so did a mock up in order to give an idea of what was happening. It happened with everything, including moving rectangles, text etc etc. I was able to work on it earlier (Ie move the rectangle/text to the correct spot not the navigation bar) and then it suddenly became an issue. Avoiding Chrome seems to have fixed the error for now. Thanks for following up 🙂 ---

Hi Shebs, thanks for the extra details, they help a lot. The icon you describe (a circle with a line through it) is the browser’s “you can’t drop here” cursor. Since it happened with every layer, started suddenly after working fine, also happened in Incognito, and Edge works, we think Chrome itself got stuck rather than Penpot. Incognito windows share the same Chrome process as normal windows, so a stuck drag-and-drop state affects both. Edge runs as a separate process, which would explain why it works there. Next time it happens in Chrome, could you try this? 1. Close Chrome completely (all windows, and check it isn’t still running in the background) and open it again. Does dragging layers work after that? 2. While it’s failing, check if dragging works on other websites in Chrome. 3. Let us know your operating system and Chrome version (Menu → Help → About Google Chrome). 4. If you have extensions allowed in Incognito, try disabling them. If a full Chrome restart fixes it, it was most likely a browser glitch. If it keeps failing in Chrome while dragging works on other sites, please open an issue on GitHub with those details and we’ll take a closer look. ---
