Hi there guys, I’ve noticed there are a few options on the design tab that could be grouped into a single section called “Filters”, which would make things easier to organize. Here’s a quick prototype:

This new section should contain the current settings for Shadow and Layer Blur. An addition to this would be the “Background Blur” filter, which makes only the background blurred instead of the whole layer.

To transpose such effect to CSS code, you could use `backdrop-filter: blur(*value in px*);`. It seems most of the browsers already support it so would be a great way to get such a filter working.

The [feature request](https://tree.taiga.io/project/penpot/issue/2024) is over four years old by know. How do people deal with such a central element of many UI systems not being available? Is there a better workaround than using a blurred copy of everything with a mask? Or do people just not use penpot when designing for platforms which use blur? Would really love to know how professionals work around it.

But maybe now everyone will follow Apple with liquid glass, and soon penpot will have successfully ignored this issue until the blur effect has become irrelevant.

Hello @nu444 !

As of right now I deal with this by doing a workaround shown here: [https://youtu.be/37jeUvaj69Y](https://youtu.be/37jeUvaj69Y)

Probably when Penpot switches the canvas structure to the new format we will be able to have such effects working.
